News From Brighton

Week One 30.06.2019Getting to Brighton was easier than expected. I drove together with Samuel and Janis to the Airport Mulhouse in Basel. After arriving in Basel, we had some time to walk through the airport, but it was not very spectacular. The flight was quite boring, so I listened to my music. In London I had to take the train to get to Brighton because I hadn`t booked a transfer. After a long journey I could finally leave the train in Brighton where my host mother was waiting for me. She´s very lovely and so are my host siblings and the father.

In the first evening I stayed at home to get known to the family. On monday I had the first day in school where we got a lot of information. After listening for hours to the teachers we had off in the afternoon so I walked with my friends through Brighton. In my class I met a saudi arabian, an italian and a brasilian student. We talked a lot about our countries and it was really interesting. During the first week I often walked through the city with my friends and ate a lot of food. My friends and I mostly went to the beach in the evenings because in the afternoon there is no space between all the people. And in addition the atmosphere during sunset while talking and laughing next to the waves of the sea is really delightful. It might be my favourite of the language stay. Of course I also went jogging to stay fit :)

Week two 07.07.2019I am already here for two weeks. That went really fast. One of my friends had to leave us the previous weekend. Unfortunately this weekend it's the same. Another friend from Italy has to leave. That's the sad part of the language stay. You make a lot of new friends but you also have to say goodbye to many friends. I don't want to think about leaving all of them in two weeks.

But the rest of the second week was similar to the first one. I met new people and talked a lot about our countries. I downloaded the app TripAdvisor which is really helpful to discover new attractions where I haven't been to yet. Furthermore, it recomended me a really nice restaurant "Brighton Burgers". I loved the Burger probably one of the best I have ever eaten in my live.

My school offers everyday an activity and so I played tennis and went to the BBQ. During the BBQ I met again new people that time two girls from Barcelona, Spain or as they preferred Catalonia. One girl from Turkey and a belgian girl. Overall there are way more girls than boys doing a language stay. Playing tennis wasn't that fun because they were pretty bad and it was more like tennis for beginners. I also went bowling which was very funny.

On Saturday I went to London, but it wasn't the best Idea to go on this day because there was the pride thatEs why many buses weren't driving and there were a lot of people. But we still saw the Big Ben (covered), the Parliament, the London Eye and many other things. To conclude, I still like Brighton and England and I am really looking forward to the next two weeks.

Week Three 14.07.2019: Sadly, my class didn't change at all this time. I'd loved to get known to new students from new countries in my class. Fortunately, there are different ways to meet new students. For example, this time I went on a trip to Seven Sisters with many other students from Stafford House. Seven Sisters are cliffs between Seaford and Eastbourne. They look gorgeous. Although we drove 1.5 hours in a not very comfortable bus it was worth to go on the trip. The most other afternoons and evenings I spent with my friends chilling on the beach or walking through Brighton. Especially the north laines are beautiful to walk through.

On Sunday I went again to London to the Imperial War Museum which was very impressive and to see the rest of London. The Tower, the Tower Bridge and St. Pauls Cathedral. Sadly, I couldn't go in because they don't let tourists in on Sunday. I also watched the Wimbledon Final in a public viewing with many english people who were also Roger Federer fan.

I am already looking forward to the next week even though it is my last week in Brighton.

Week Four 21.07.2019Wow, these four weeks went even quicker than I thought they would. Yesterday was a quite sad day because I had to saygood bye to so many friends and people. Of course I was also happy to go back to my family although I had to leave Brighton.

During the last week I wanted to do many things with my friends because I won't see some of them ever again. Therefore, we played lasertag which was very funny, and on Tuesday we went to the beach for a BBQ. The BBQ was a bit of a mess, because first of all, it was difficult to make a

fire while the wind blows, and secondly when we managed to do the bonfire our meat wasn't getting well. Anyways, it was still very funny. All the other evenings we also spent together doing stuff.

Saying goodbye to my host family on Saturday was as I already mentioned very sad. Afterwards I went with the train to London Gatwick Airport and then on the plane to Basel where my family was waiting for me. That was very lovely. We went to a lake and spent the evening in our house eating Raclette even though it's summer.

To summarize these four weeks, I would say I really liked the language stay. I made a bunch of new friends and improved my english knowledge. I liked Brighton because of all the activities and beautiful lanes, but I wouldn't recommend Brighton if you wanted to live british, because there are a lot of language students from all over the world. Of course this is also a benefit.
